The museum is housed in the original
Castello di San Pelagio, where, during the first world war, Gabriele
D'Annunzio and his "serenissima" squadron lodged. They
left for the famous "flight of Vienna" on 9 August
1918 from the near flight field. In the magic atmosphere of this
castle, that was built in XIV century by the Carrarese family
a fascinating history of human flight, from its origins to nowadays,
has been organised in about 40 rooms and in the surrounding park.
The museum houses ancient photographs, scale models, parts of
airplanes, uniforms and relics, sometimes very rare, while in
the park one can see some airplanes dating to different epochs. |
