| The museum has been situated since 1938 in a XVI century convent, which has largely been restored. On the ground floor you can see the archaeological collections, comprising pre-historic and Roman findings of the Treviso area (flintstones, bronze handwork, Greek, Italic and Roman earthenware). A vast picture-gallery is housed on the first floor, with paintings and sculpture of great value dating from XV to XVIII century; among them we can remember Titian's Ritratto di Sperone Speroni, Lorenzo Lotto's Ritratto di Domenicano, Jacopo Bassano's Crocefissione and other works by Paris Bordon, Pennacchi, Cima da Conegliano, Luca Giordano and Rosalba Carriera. The contemporary art gallery is of equal value, comprising the main corpus of works by the great sculptur Arturo Martini, and an important collection of works by artists of local origin or operating locally (Guglielmo Ciardi, Gino Rossi, Nino Sprignolo and Giovanni Barbisan among others). Particularly interesting is the Salce Collection, one of the most important affiches collection in the world, comprising more than 24.000 posters that are continuously exhibited. | ||||||||||||||||||
